It was an almost perfect weekend for Jeffrey Buis. This Sunday, he sealed victory in the second race of the Supersport 300 World Championship in Assen – just like he did yesterday in Race 1. But this was a fiercely fought triumph.
Julio García (Prodina Kawasaki) started from pole position, but Buis (Freudenberg KTM-Paligo Racing) took the lead on the opening lap, with the Spaniard settling into second.
As is so often the case in this category, the 12-lap race saw a large group of riders battling it out for the win and podium places. In the end, the top ten were separated by less than one second.
Lead changes were constant, with six different riders occupying first place at some point. But in the end, the fight came down to Buis and David Salvador (Team Prodina XCI/Kawasaki).
The Spaniard pushed hard all the way to the line, but Buis snatched his second win of the Assen weekend by just one thousandth of a second. Daniel Mogeda (Pons Motorsport Italika/Kawasaki) completed the podium.
Marco Gaggi (Team BrCorse/Yamaha) finished fourth, and Beñat Fernández (Team#109 Retro Traffic Kove) was fifth. After this second round of the season, Buis leads the championship with 75 points – 14 ahead of García.
