Stage of the start of the 8th edition of Portugal de Lés-a-Lés, Penafiel will also be the starting point for the 5th Reflorestar Portugal de Lés-a-Lés campaign, an initiative of the Portuguese Motorcycle Federation that aims to raise awareness of the need to revitalize the Portuguese forest, extremely devastated by fires in recent years. An awareness campaign that stands out for its commitment to rehabilitating the forest in the most correct and balanced way, using native species from the places where the caravan of adventure motorcyclists passes through.
An awareness campaign that starts tomorrow, Friday, at the City Park of Penafiel, where, from 2 pm, about a hundred children from the 1st cycle of basic education will disembark, ready to prepare the future by planting 2 alders, 2 ash trees, and 6 strawberry trees. Together with teachers, operational assistants, local authorities, and the local motorcycle club, the kids will also hear an explanation about the advantages of native species, teachings that they can later recall through the comic strip specifically prepared for them. An afternoon of learning and entertainment that will culminate with a snack and the offer of more trees for later planting in various locations in Penafiel, and that will be repeated in the following days, during stops in Figueira da Foz (at the Abadias EB1 School, at 11.30 am), Estremoz, and Portimão.
Cities that mark, from October 2 to 4, the end of each of the three stages of this non-competitive tourist event, which, over about 300 kilometers daily, will reveal some of the most beautiful off-road trails, among vineyards and olive groves, chestnut groves and oak forests, through mountains and valleys, with stops at unknown viewpoints to enjoy breathtaking landscapes. The route will also include some river crossings, in a challenge that, far from being a race, combines adventure and overcoming, camaraderie and fun, and is open to trail bikes of all brands and engine sizes, shapes and sizes.
