For decades, the MV Agusta brand has been known primarily as a noble factory of particularly sporty motorcycles. In order to expand its customer base, the launch of two Lucky Explorer models was planned for 2023, a two-cylinder Lucky Explorer 5.5 and a three-cylinder Lucky Explorer 9.5, both based on the history of the Cagiva Elefant, which was produced in the late 1980s at what is now MV Agusta’s main factory in Varese. It was considered certain that the Lucky Explorer would become a sub-brand of MV in order to more easily develop new customers. This was planned years ago, but the new shareholder Pierer Industries did not like both models very much, so the lower-displacement Lucky Explorer 5.5 as a derivation from QJ Motor is now considered “abandoned”, but not yet confirmed.
For the older sister, a new market positioning had to be found with time pressure so as not to interfere with the path of the already established KTM 790 and 890 Adventure and Husqvarna Norden 901. That is why the sub-brand Lucky Explorer was literally abandoned at the last minute.
Lucky Explorer 9.5 becomes MV Agusta Enduro Veloce
Instead, the motorcycle will be integrated into the existing MV Agusta model family and will not be available for sale until early 2024. Among other things, this means a new name and that, similar to the Turismo Veloce, it will be called Enduro Veloce in the future. At least, that’s what the Italian media suggest. Visually, the paint has been adapted accordingly and will shine in the typical red/silver of MV, which is already appearing on the photographed pre-production model and still slightly camouflaged. Other visual details have also been revised. For example, the base of the windshield is transparent in the production version and the seat appears to be more padded and of better quality.
New three-cylinder engine with 125 hp in the MV Agusta Enduro Veloce
The engine, an exclusive development from MV Agusta with a counter-rotating crankshaft, 81 x 60.2 millimeters bore and stroke, the typical three cylinders and a total displacement of 931 cc, has been slightly adapted. It is expected to produce around 125 hp. Final adjustments are still ongoing and the supplier Bosch and shareholder KTM are also helping with the final touches.
Details regarding the price can only be expected after the final presentation. This will probably take place in November, at EICMA, in Milan.
