Honda has taken another significant step towards its ambitious goal of launching 30 electric vehicles by 2030, with the introduction of two new electric scooters exclusively for the Indonesian market: the CUV e: and the ICON e:.
The choice of Indonesia as the stage for this launch is not coincidental. The country is one of the world’s largest motorcycle markets, having recorded sales of 5.2 million units in 2022. Honda, which holds an impressive 73.8% market share in the country, sees this initiative as an opportunity to consolidate its leadership position, while responding to government incentives for the adoption of electric vehicles.
The CUV e:, an electric equivalent to a 110cc scooter, is a direct evolution of the SC e: concept. Its name pays homage to the 1994 CUV ES, Honda’s first electric scooter. Although the current design is more modern, some enthusiasts may miss the iconic turquoise blue that characterized the original model.
The ICON e:, on the other hand, is based on the EM1 e: model and has been redesigned specifically for the Indonesian market. It uses a ternary lithium battery that can be charged on the scooter or removed for external charging.
Both models will be produced locally in Indonesia. The CUV e: offers three riding modes – Standard, Sport, and Econ – as well as a reverse mode. As an option, it can be equipped with the Honda RoadSync Duo system, allowing riders to connect their smartphones for access to features such as phone calls, music playback, and navigation.
This launch represents not only an advance in Honda’s global electrification strategy but also a response to the specific needs of the Indonesian market, demonstrating the brand’s flexibility in adapting its solutions to different regional contexts.
