As the date of September 28, 2023 approaches, BMW Motorrad has been teasing the upcoming R 1300 GS on their social media channels. While some pre-launch teasers use silhouettes or close-up images with exclusive details, BMW Motorrad has the freedom to do something a little different, as they have already announced the name of the bike.
To announce the arrival of the new BMW R 1300 GS, BMW Motorrad chose to use a single action shot of the new bike on an adventure. Although the image is the same across all their social media platforms, the caption text is slightly different on each one.
On Instagram, the caption is simple: “The wait is almost over!”, followed by a raised hands emoji to celebrate and the hashtag #R1300GS. Then it reads: “Mark your calendars and get ready to experience the extraordinary. September 28, 5 PM CEST”.
On Facebook, the chosen caption text says: “Ready to set the pace with the new BMW #R1300GS?”, followed by the eyes emoji. The next paragraph says: “Stay tuned! September 28, 5 PM CEST. #ThePacesetter”.
Finally, on X (the site formerly known as Twitter), it reads “Not long until we explore new paths with the brand new BMW #R1300GS! Stay tuned.” followed by the raised hands emoji to celebrate. The next graphic says: “September 28, 5 PM CEST. #ThePacesetter”
Due to the water splashes in the image, there is a vague impression of a GS-shaped motorcycle engaging in GS activities, but not much detail is visible. Zooming in shows the spoked wheels and double brake discs, as expected. Some commentators on social media claim that the front end also appears slightly slimmer than the previous R 1250 GS, but it is difficult to get a strong sense of proportion with the way the surrounding water appears in this photograph.
Interestingly, if you had the opportunity to see the photos of the R 1300 GS test model that we published in May 2023, that very prominent nose under the headlights in the test model photos almost disappears completely in the teaser photograph. Is it a trick of light and water conditions, or will the R 1300 GS, when released, look significantly different from what was revealed in the test model photos?
The good news is that we only have two more weeks to discover together. We will keep you updated as the R 1300 GS is unveiled to the world.
