Practically every month new models inspired by European or American motorcycles arrive from China. Often they are true replicas, other times they are oriental “reinterpretations” inspired by specific models from our markets. The legend of Harley-Davidson could not fail to fascinate even oriental companies, which decided to imitate several models of the American manufacturer: for example, the mini “Pan America” 350.
A new Sportster has arrived on the market, manufactured in China, which absorbs everything it can from the true Sportster, the Harley-Davidson. It is called Mitt 808, costs 8,295 euros and actually debuted at EICMA 2023, but was not yet ready to enter Europe.
If the shapes and design seem familiar to you, you are not mistaken. In addition to being inspired by the Harley-Davidson Sportster, the Mitt 808 would be none other than the Xiangshuai XS 800 N, imported and customized by the Spanish importer Mitt.
Much was “borrowed” from the Harley-Davidson Sportster models: fuel tank, seat cover, steel fork frame, style of the two wheels and brakes. Even the exhaust system resembles that of a Harley-Davidson, but the same cannot be said of the liquid-cooled V2 engine of the Mitt 808.
Mitt offers the ‘Eighty Eight’ starting at 8,295 euros, this is the standard model of the Mitt 808. The declared weight is 226 kilograms, ready to ride, and the seat height from the ground is low, cruiser type, 760 millimeters.
The Mitt 808 Big Foot version is the bobber style declination. As the name indicates, it has wider rims: 130/70-19 tires in the front (instead of 100/90-19) and wide 240/45-17 tires in the back (instead of 150/80-16). Another significant difference is the seat (approved for two people and combined with passenger footrests), but with a more compact look. The seat height drops even further: 720 instead of 760 millimeters. These details make the Mitt 808 Big Foot a bit more expensive, going up to 9,295 euros.
Both Mitt 808 models are equipped with the same liquid-cooled V2 engine with approximately 800 cc and 4 valves per cylinder. Mitt claims a maximum power of 56 hp (41 kW) at 7,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 67 Nm at 5,500 rpm, however, a limited version of 47 hp (35 kW) will be available, suitable for the European A2 license. The gearbox is 6-speed, while the final transmission is belt-driven.The frame of the Mitt 808 models is also in line with the original design from the USA. The frame and swing arm are made of steel, the two shock absorbers offer preload adjustment, and the fork is telescopic with classic bellows in the front. Disc brakes, LED lights, and modern digital screens complete the equipment. In addition, Mitt’s importer offers a five-year warranty.
According to sources, the Mitt 808 will be available in Europe as early as April.
