In a statement from the Portuguese Motorcycle Federation that clarifies the main doubts about the Moto-Tourism Rallies, you can find all the information you need to participate in a Moto-Tourism Rally.
To start preparing to participate in a journey of the National Trophy of FMP BMW/Dunlop Moto-Tourism Rallies (whether it’s one, all, or some), it is necessary to contact the organizing motorcycle club of each tourism rally (contacts below). Search their website or the FMP’s. Generally, an organizing club promotes the program of their event as soon as the previous one ends.
Participants do not need to be affiliated with any club or have a Motorcycle Card. Affiliated motorcyclists benefit from a price advantage.
These tourism rides last a day and a half. All day Saturday plus Sunday morning, ending with lunch. Generally, they focus on a single municipality, but can cover several. They never have a long distance. From 100 to 150 km on Saturday and from 30 to 80 km on Sunday. However, they have many visits, surprises, stops, snacks, and fun.
The registration always includes lunch, dinner, and overnight stay on Saturday, plus the final lunch on Sunday. They usually have a lot of “snacks” and open the doors to places that are usually closed, showing us surprising sites and making us always travel off the beaten path.
The routes prioritize municipal roads, picturesque paths, and avoid banality. They are designed for road motorcycles, but if we have to ride on any dirt section to reach a viewpoint or monument that justifies it, no one turns their back. The Portugal de Lés-a-Lés was born in this fantastic environment in 1999. The Moto-Tourism Rallies Trophy has existed since 1996.
To make participants more attentive to their surroundings, they do not ride in a convoy. The motorcycles depart spaced out at a minute interval (or less, if the adherence is high), with the riders navigating through a moto-touristic roadbook. The passengers – of which there are many – also have it to have fun and help. And then there are questions along the routes to keep the attention always alert. More games, tasks, and scoreable surprises for the final ranking. The prizes are never valuable.
This way, there are no idle times and you learn a lot about the visited region. We return home with the pleasant feeling of having known another handful of our territory.
The roadbook is a small book in A5 size, stapled in one corner, suitable for a tank bag. There is no need for roadbook readers, as these events are not races.
These are events that require a lot of work and planning. The eight current clubs deserve congratulations and deserve the full trust of FMP.
Next, we remind you of the calendar for 2024 and the email contacts of each organizing club, so you can prepare your participation. Soon, the general regulations of the Trophy will be published on www.fmp.pt.
