Yamaha Motor has announced its participation in the Tokyo Auto Salon 2025, taking place at Makuhari Messe in Chiba from January 10-12, 2025. The company revealed that the new motorcycles announced last fall will also be on display at their booth. The YZF-R3 and Tracer 9 GT models will be presented for the first time in Japan!
Electric mobility and motorsport innovations
The Tokyo Auto Salon is one of the world’s largest auto shows, held annually in January. This year, Yamaha Motor will showcase a diverse range of innovations. Highlights include a Formula E electric racing machine, a low-speed electric mobility platform under development, and recently launched motorcycles.
Yamaha’s booth will display three models: YZF-R3, Tracer 9 GT, and MT-03 Touring Style (an MT-03 version with Y’s Gear accessories). The YZF-R3 and Tracer 9 GT models are particularly anticipated as they will be presented for the first time in Japan. These motorcycles, designed for the international market, feature significant design and equipment updates and are scheduled for release in the Japanese market. Besides motorcycles, the booth will offer exclusive Yamaha merchandise, including t-shirts and caps, promising to be a must-visit spot for enthusiasts.
YZF-R3: Updated design with aerodynamic focus
The YZF-R3, a mid-range sports motorcycle, has received its first update in five years. While basic specifications remain unchanged, the 2025 model introduces new features such as sporty projector headlights, now common to the YZF series, giving it a refreshed look. Winglets inspired by MotoGP machines have been added, along with a new seat for aerodynamic optimization. The addition of an assist and slipper clutch provides more dynamic riding.
Although the displayed version is the 311cc model, its sister model, the 250cc YZF-R25, which is very popular in Japan, shares several design elements and is also scheduled for an upcoming update.
Tracer 9 GT: Cutting-edge technology with adaptive LED headlights
The Tracer 9 GT, a sport-touring model with an 890cc engine and aluminum frame derived from the MT-09, receives significant updates. The new version includes Adaptive Matrix LED headlights that automatically adjust illumination according to traffic and weather conditions. The system maintains cornering lights, providing optimized visibility.
Additionally, the top-of-the-line Tracer 9 GT+ version, not exhibited at this event, features advanced functions such as Active Cruise Control (ACC) and blind spot detection, thanks to millimeter-wave radars.
