Deniz Öncü began his second season in Moto2 showing a strong pace, but without luck on his side. The Turkish rider for Red Bull KTM Ajo has scored six points in the first two rounds of the 2025 World Championship and believes he can take a step forward in the upcoming races.
‘We were very strong throughout all the pre-season tests, but in the first two rounds we couldn’t show our true potential. We know where the key to improvement lies and to be as strong as we were in winter, and we need to change that to stay at the front. We had some difficulties in qualifying, so if we improve on that point, we’ll be where we deserve to be,’ the Turk said in an interview with the team’s official website.
Öncü’s relationship with Red Bull KTM Ajo goes back a long way, and for the Turkish rider, the team is more than just a workplace: ‘I’ve been part of KTM since my time in CEV and Red Bull KTM Ajo for a long time, and I think this is more than just a job, because for me it’s a family. It’s always been an honor to be part of this project and I’ll give everything I have for this team. Of course, my goal here is always to reach the highest level and, if possible, fight for World Championships.’
With the confidence of someone who feels they can regularly be in the fight for the top spots, Öncü approaches the upcoming races with determination. The focus is on improving qualifying performance to translate his speed into solid results.
