David Alonso will be joining the Moto2 World Championship next season. The bike in the premier class is considerably different from the one in Moto3, and is also much more powerful and bigger.
In Moto3, the Colombian had a 250 cubic centimetre KTM, whose minimum weight with the rider included is 148kg. In Moto2, on the other hand, he’ll find a 765 cc three-cylinder Kalex.
This naturally requires a different physique. Alonso told Motorbike Magazine what will have to change: ‘I will have to gain 2 or 3kg, get a bit stronger, and change my riding style a bit too’.
What won’t change for Alonso is the team: he’s still with CFMOTO Aspar, as he has been for the last two seasons, so the adaptation won’t be as complex as if he also changed the structure.
