The second round of the AMA Supercross 450, held in San Diego, was marked by a victory for Eli Tomac, who shone at Snapdragon Stadium. This was the 53rd win of his Monster Energy AMA Supercross career, a feat that allowed him to take the championship lead for the first time since the serious injury he suffered in 2023.
Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Tomac held firm throughout the race, resisting pressure from Team Honda HRC Progressive’s Jett Lawrence. Lawrence, who finished second, made a remarkable recovery from 12th place in the season opener in Anaheim.
Cooper Webb, also of Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing, led the opening laps, but was overtaken almost simultaneously by Tomac and Lawrence halfway through the race. Despite recovering from an illness, Webb managed to hold on to third place, fending off a final onslaught from Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki’s Ken Roczen, who finished fourth.
With this victory Tomac moved into the lead in the championship with 42 points, one more than Sexton and two more than Roczen.
