Yamaha is facing a challenging task in its efforts to secure a satellite team in MotoGP for 2025. The two potential options on the table were Pertamina Enduro VR46 and Prima Pramac Racing, both currently partnered with Ducati, the dominant manufacturer in the premier class.
It appears that VR46 has already declined to switch, and according to Motorsport.com, something happened on the sidelines of the French GP that significantly increased the likelihood of Pramac continuing with Ducati to 95 percent.
An unidentified Yamaha member admitted these are their only alternatives: ‘Our first alternative has always been VR46, but we couldn’t convince them. So plan B is Pramac, and we hope they accept the offer we made them. There is no plan C’.
Yamaha believes their proposal to Pramac is “very interesting” and thus holds hope it will be accepted. The deadline for Pramac to confirm their continuation with Ducati is the end of July, at which point they can activate or not the clause for an additional two years. It is expected that if they continue, Pramac will again have two current factory bikes.
