Yamaha remains committed to returning to winning ways in MotoGP and is preparing a significant change to its bikes, with a V4 engine having been in development for some time. Max Bartolini is largely responsible for the new bike and has said that it’s not enough to work on the engine, but on a completely new bike. More speed from the V4 engine? It’s too early to say.
The manufacturer’s engineer told MotoGP about the need to work on several fronts: ‘When we think about the V4 engine, we shouldn’t just think about the engine itself. Having a V4 engine means you have to build a completely different bike. In other words, a different chassis, a different weight distribution, different parts on the bike’.
However, in view of the current stage of development, the Italian declined to comment on the bike’s increase in speed compared to what is currently available, while at the same time talking about important decisions still to be made:
– But at the moment we have no idea if it’s faster or not. So we have to build the engine, build the bike, see if it’s faster and then decide. We have to make a decision in 2025, and I hope to have the necessary information to decide in 2025.
