The Los Angeles Dodgers are poised for a roster shake-up following their World Series victory, and Teoscar Hernandez’s future appears to lie outside of LA. The two-time All-Star outfielder is reportedly drawing serious interest from the Boston Red Sox, who could swoop in and sign the $69 million slugger.
Hernandez delivered a standout 2024 season for the Dodgers, slashing .272/.339/.501 with 33 home runs, 99 RBIs, and 12 stolen bases. His .840 OPS and 4.3 WAR underscored his ability to produce in all facets of the game, making him a key part of the Dodgers’ success. However, the recent signing of Michael Conforto to a one-year deal may have left Hernandez without a spot in LA’s crowded outfield.
Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report has predicted that Hernandez will sign with the Boston Red Sox, a move that makes sense for both sides. Fenway Park has been a favorable setting for Hernandez, who boasts a .950 OPS in 100 plate appearances there—his highest at any stadium. With Boston needing a reliable right-handed bat to balance their lineup, Hernandez represents an ideal fit.
“The Red Sox have a surplus of outfielders, but not of right-handed hitters,” Rymer wrote. “Hernández is about as well as they can do in regard to the latter, and it would be easy for Red Sox manager Alex Cora to get him at-bats in left field and at designated hitter.”
For Boston, the addition of Hernandez would fill a crucial void in the middle of their lineup, bolstering their chances of emerging as contenders in the competitive American League East. His power, versatility, and ability to perform in pressure situations make him a valuable asset.
The Dodgers, meanwhile, face a challenging road ahead. Replacing Hernandez’s power and consistency will not be easy, even with their financial resources. While a reunion remains a possibility, the team’s investment in Conforto and their focus on pitching depth may shift their priorities away from retaining Hernandez.
As the offseason unfolds, Hernandez’s market is expected to heat up, with teams recognizing the value he brings as a proven middle-of-the-order presence. Should Boston secure his signature, it could be a move that not only strengthens their lineup but also leaves the Dodgers searching for answers as they defend their title in 2025.
