The Argentine GP was a historic moment for motorcycle racing, as Marc Márquez equaled a record held by Ángel Nieto – becoming the third rider with the most victories in the World Championship across all categories (90).
The 12+1-time world champion passed away in 2017 and was unable to witness this milestone, but his son, Pablo Nieto, was there to see it – both as a spectator and a rival.
The Pertamina Enduro VR46 team manager put aside his role as a Ducati competitor to thank Márquez for acknowledging his father, telling MotoGP’s official website:
– It was a special day. When riders don’t forget my father, it’s very personal, very emotional for me. I have to say thank you to all of them because all the riders always think about my father. I have to say thank you to Marc for recognising my father And this is life because he will keep trying to beat him.
