Jack Miller is in his second year with Red Bull KTM in MotoGP and has yet to find a way to maintain consistent form and keep up with his teammate, Brad Binder.
In the French GP, the Australian failed to score any points, marking the second time this season – and the second consecutive main race he has failed to finish.
The potential of the KTM RC16 is undeniable – Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GasGas Tech3/KTM), a rookie in the satellite team, has been able to fight at the top. Binder, despite having only one podium, has never missed the top ten in main races.
This year, Miller’s sole exception has been the double fifth-place finish at the Portuguese GP. It was the only time he reached the top ten in a main race, and five rounds have already passed since then.
The results crisis deepened in Le Mans: if it weren’t for the eighth place in the Sprint race, he would have gone two consecutive Grand Prix weekends without scoring any points. During the main race incident, he was in 11th place, which would have earned him points. This is far below KTM’s ambitions and the pilot’s resume.
With his contract ending, Miller is under pressure to perform significantly better if he wants to keep his spot in 2025. KTM has many options to replace him, including Acosta, so the pressure is on the Australian. Given the scarcity of seats in the field, he also needs to improve to secure a spot on a competitive team.
The season is still long, but important decisions in the rider market might be made in the coming weeks, possibly before the summer break. Thus, Miller needs to react immediately, having the Catalonia and Italy GPs to prove himself before a short break in June due to the cancellation of the Kazakhstan GP.
