In recent days, rumors have resurfaced about KTM’s continued presence in MotoGP, with the possibility that 2025 could be the last season for the ambitious Austrian manufacturer, which is currently facing serious financial difficulties.
An active search for investors has been openly acknowledged by KTM Motorsport director, Pit Beirer. One of the alleged interested parties is Lewis Hamilton. But what if the alternative for the project involved… CFMOTO?
The Chinese manufacturer is currently a partner of the Pierer Mobility Group, though it does not hold stock (unlike, for example, Bajaj, which is rumored to be a potential solution for KTM AG’s survival).
There is no denying that China is a massive market, and at the same time, CFMOTO aims to expand internationally. Its range of sport motorcycles has been growing, and in November, the company unveiled a new V4 engine at EICMA. MotoGP uses V4 engines, after all.
CFMOTO has the investment capacity, and the desire might be there – the brand is present in Moto2 and Moto3 as a sponsor. Thus, a potential move to MotoGP in the future wouldn’t be entirely out of the question, even potentially taking over the spots currently held by KTM, effectively helping to «save» the structure.
If the Mattighofen manufacturer exits by the end of 2025, there could even be some sort of agreement to take over the bikes by 2026, before developing their own model for 2027 – when new regulations will come into play, including a reduction in engine displacement to 850cc.
