KTM is determined to join the fight for MotoGP titles this year, and during the Sepang tests, they experimented with innovations on the RC16. Brad Binder, one of the riders for the factory team, spoke about the matter.
According to the South African, there was extensive work with various different fairing solutions: ‘For sure we tried a hell of a lot of different combos. It’s clear some fairings might be a bit faster in the straight line, some the bike is more agile or easy to throw it around. Others you have a better rear contact and more grip. It’s kind of really trying to figure out what points you like and what points make you faster. So, whether you can lose agility but you prefer the grip or you need that agility to really control the bike and throw it around consistently’.
After the on-track tests, Binder emphasized that it is now time to capitalize on the information obtained and work from there: ‘We tried so many different fairings, so many different combos. There are certain points we like in all of them, others were quite difficult. Now we got a lot of information for the engineers, they can go back, they can really understand better what is changing, what’s actually happened, or what we felt at least. So now it’s time to really take all our new knowledge and build that to one super package hopefully’.
