Moto2 Thai GP free practice was interrupted with a red flag due to an unusual and frightening accident at the pit exit.
Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex) was stationary, apparently dealing with issues on his bike, and signaling for assistance. Zonta van der Goorbergh (RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP/Kalex) seemed unaware and crashed violently into the Italian rider, hitting him in the left leg. Fabio Quartararo’s reaction in the video below captures the shock of the incident.
A track marshal, also at the scene, narrowly avoided being struck by van der Goorbergh as he lost control following the impact with Arbolino. The Italian rider was thrown to the ground, visibly in pain, and was taken to a hospital for examination.
Amazingly, Arbolino escaped serious injury and was declared fit to ride. Despite the pain and needing assistance to mount his bike, he participated in Practice 1 hours later… impressively clocking the second-fastest time.
Maximum courage 💪
