The MotoGP Portuguese GP ended three laps early for Francesco Bagnaia. The rider, who had won the season’s opening round, crashed while running in fourth place.
The Ducati Italian was attempting to defend fourth from the attacks of Marc Márquez (Gresini/Ducati). After the Spaniard overtook him, Bagnaia tried to respond immediately.
The maneuver didn’t go as planned; there was contact, and both riders went down. Bagnaia was unable to continue the race, while Márquez got back up but failed to score points.
Even after being overtaken, fifth place was a very likely outcome for Bagnaia. Instead, he scored zero points due to an unforced error when he could have secured at least 11 points — ultimately finishing the season ten points behind the champion.
