After talking about how important it is to have a rider like Aleix Espargaró at Honda, Alberto Puig recalled how fast the rider is and that in order to test new components on the bikes, you also need to be fast.
The Honda Team Manager was asked by Motorsport about the importance of being fast on the track, and he replied: ‘It’s very important, because he came off the bike on Sunday at Montmeló, in the last race of the season, when he was fighting for the podium. To test the parts properly, you need to be fast’.
He went on to explain why: ‘There are different types of tests you do, but in the end you have to assess the real potential, the performance they offer, the speed. To do that, you need a driver who can push himself to the limit, and Aleix is that rider’.
Puig again showed his confidence in the Spaniard: ‘I believe his arrival will be positive for Honda and for the other riders’.
