Aleix Espargaró was unable to compete for pole position at the MotoGP Thai GP, but he secured the third position on the starting grid. In the qualifying session, he was only surpassed by the Ducatis of Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac) and Luca Marini (Mooney VR46 Racing Team).
Asked in the official broadcast about what have changed from the struggles at Buriram last year to the strong performance this weekend, the Spanish rider from Aprilia replied:
– It’s a very good question, I don’t have a clear answer. We worked quite differently. Last year we modified the bike quite a lot during the warm-up. Let’s see if our starting point this weekend was the warm-up of last season. I immediately felt better. After Misano test we are also using a different swingarm that gives me some extra grip and in circuits like this it pays off. I’m happy, really. To be strong in our difficult circuits it’s very important for the future if you want to fight on top.
