Iñigo Iglesias claimed victory in the first race of the Supersport 300 World Championship (WSSP300) in Misano this Saturday, in what turned out to be one of the most closely contested races in the championship’s history.
The Spanish rider from Fusport-RT Motorsports by SKM-Kawasaki was a constant presence at the front, engaging in a fierce battle on the final lap with Aldi Mahendra (Team BrCorse/Yamaha). The two riders exchanged positions multiple times during the last lap.
The outcome was decided only at the finish line, with Iglesias narrowly defeating Mahendra by just seven thousandths of a second, in what was practically a photo finish. Mirko Gennai (MTM Kawasaki) completed the podium, having overtaken Marc García (KOVE Racing Team) on the final lap to secure third place.
The top five riders finished within half a second of each other, with Pepe Osuna (DEZA-BOX 77 Racing Team/Kawasaki) in fourth and last year’s champion, Jeffrey Buis (Freudenberg KTM-Paligo Racing), finishing in sixth place.
