With Fermín Aldeguer’s confirmation at Gresini this Wednesday, there are only three officially unfilled seats in the MotoGP grid for 2025 – one at LCR Honda and two at Prima Pramac Racing.
For LCR Honda, Takaaki Nakagami’s contract expires at the end of the year, and Somkiat Chantra is speculated as a strong candidate for that bike. As for Prima Pramac, which will become a satellite team for Yamaha, the two current riders have already been confirmed with other teams. Miguel Oliveira and Jack Miller could be heading to Pramac.
So far, all teams have at least one new rider, except for Monster Energy Yamaha and Repsol Honda. Pertamina Enduro VR46 (Fabio Di Giannantonio/Franco Morbidelli) and Red Bull KTM Tech3 (Enea Bastianini/Maverick Viñales) have seen complete changes.
At Ducati, the most high-profile move occurred with Marc Márquez joining Francesco Bagnaia. Aprilia opted for the young duo of Jorge Martín and Marco Bezzecchi, while Red Bull KTM placed promising Pedro Acosta in Miller’s seat, and Trackhouse Racing replaced Miguel Oliveira with rookie Ai Ogura.
So far, two rookies have been confirmed – Ogura and Aldeguer. Therefore, at least two riders from the current grid will need to leave. One will be Aleix Espargaró, who has already announced his retirement; another could be one of the following: Augusto Fernández, Miller, Oliveira, or Nakagami. Or even two of these, if it is confirmed that LCR Honda opts for Chantra.
With only three rounds remaining in Europe before the Asian leg of the season, it is expected that the MotoGP grid for 2025 will be finalized in the coming weeks. However, in the case of LCR Honda, it is possible that Honda might wait for the Japanese GP to make an announcement at home.
