Marc Márquez has eight world titles to his name – six in MotoGP. And this year, he could achieve another one if he maintains his current form, thus equaling Valentino Rossi.
At the start of the season, the Spanish Ducati rider displayed absolute dominance, winning everything there was to win in the Thai and Argentine GPs – both in a commanding fashion.
The record for most titles stands at 15, held by Giacomo Agostini… who, in an interview with La Repubblica, admitted he wouldn’t like to be surpassed:
– Let’s hope not. I certainly don’t want him to succeed. In the unfortunate event that he does one day, I won’t be happy at all. But I will congratulate him. He deserves it.
That said, the former rider acknowledged that any racer always strives for more titles, and Márquez is no exception: ‘This year, he aims to win his ninth championship and match Rossi. If he succeeds, the next goal will be the tenth – he won’t think of anything else. But we would all do the same; winning is enjoyable’.
