Marc Márquez returned to victory at the MotoGP Australian GP, marking his third win of the year. Notably, it was the first in more normal conditions, without rain or a peculiar track surface.
The Gresini Racing rider feels he is becoming more consistent and competitive with the fastest riders: ‘Of course, step by step I’m more consistent. And also in Motegi I was super close to these two guys, who are the fastest ones [Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martín]. Even in Mandalika, I felt competitive in the Sprint race, and then also in the race’.
With growing confidence, Márquez decided the Australian GP was the moment to take a bigger risk: ‘After Aragón I’m looking for that consistency, but if you get that consistency, step by step you get more and more confidence. And this weekend I said, «Okay, now it’s time to take the risk». Because it’s one of the circuits where I have bigger opportunities to fight for the victory. And we did it’.
With three races left in the season, the Spaniard aims to maintain this level and push for even better results: ‘Now, of course, there are three races remaining. We will try to keep the same level that we showed in Japan and Mandalika, trying to improve our weak points and keep our strong points’.
