Pedro Acosta’s good performances continue in the MotoGP preseason. This Wednesday, the Red Bull GasGas Tech3 rider finished eighth on the second day of testing in Sepang, just over half a second behind the leader Enea Bastianini (Ducati).
The rookie is happy with his performance, as he said: ‘We are happy because we were 0.5s faster than yesterday and 0.4s faster than my best lap time in the shakedown. For this, we are happy’.
Being eightth, Acosta was behind riders with a lot of experience and titles, recalling the differences for his opponents in this aspect: ‘At the end I was counting how many World Championships are in front of me – I count six or seven. And at the end these guys have experience. They spent a lot of years in MotoGP, and on the other hand they spent a lot of years in the championships. Remember that this is the third time I come to Malaysia, it’s not that much. At the end these guys know how to go fast. They know the settings, they know how to do it, it’s just put everything on and go’.
The race pace is still ‘not enough’ for Acosta, but he is pleased with the improvements in this area. And he mentioned what makes him happiest after another day of testing: ‘The pace. At the end this is coming. Now we are faster in one lap, now we are faster also in the way to do the lap, we are a little bit faster in the pace. We are a little bit better understanding the way of the electronics. We are coming’.
Regarding the quick lap, #31 stated that it is pleasing, although it’s only tomorrow that he will really work on this area: ‘Better than in Moto2, because at the end we are able to be fast in the second tyre. In the first one we are struggling a bit to approach the corners and to see where to brake. But it’s coming a little bit better than in Moto2. Tomorrow we will make the first time attack practice and also a Sprint race simulation. So tomorrow we will have more information’.
