The minimum tyre pressure in MotoGP this year has been set at 1.8 bar – slightly lower than last year. Infractions entail severe time penalties, although it is a very complicated aspect to manage.
Aleix Espargaró, Aprilia rider, believes that the measure will not cause significant differences in performance considering the usual pressures but will provide a greater margin of error:
– I don’t think is going to make a big difference in terms of performance, but it’s going to help us making our life a little bit easier. Especially the engineers; sometimes was like to throw a coin and it was difficult to understand. I think our average pressure is 1.92 bar, 1.95 bar, 1.90 bar. It will be very similar, but in any case it’s going to give us some more margin to avoid the penalties.
