Getting closer to peak form, Fabio Di Giannantonio delivered a solid performance on Saturday at the MotoGP GP of the Americas – finishing the Sprint race in fourth place.
The Italian Pertamina Enduro VR46 rider, who qualified second, only behind Marc Márquez (Ducati), sees many positives from Saturday in Austin… but he was hoping for an even better result in the Sprint race:
– Yes, I was frustrated about the result itself, even though it is a really positive day for us because, in the end, I achieved my first front row of the year. We did an amazing qualifying – I were the closest rider to be there fighting with Marc. So, that’s good for us here. And I think I did the best result of the year so far with the P4. So, it was a really positive day, but I really wanted much more from the Sprint.
The start wasn’t ideal, and Di Giannantonio knows it was the key moment that negatively impacted his result: ‘It was a pity for the start; I did a good manouver in terms of releasing the clutch and throttle management. We just have to fix a few things on the electronics side to make it a bit more powerful, let’s say. And this put us be with the riders behind, so it destroyed a bit my final result because at the moment when you have to fight with Pecco [Bagnaia], Álex [Márquez] or Marc you have to be really there. It’s spectacular, but it’s not helpful for the final result. So, I was a bit angry for this’.
