Last December we began to share with you the seven steps to becoming a motorcycle enthusiast and after the curiosity, research and purchase of your first motorcycle, you give in to modifications. It sounds like a lie, but it isn’t, and few people have their (first) motorcycles exactly the same as they were when they left the dealer (if bought new, of course).
Entering the world of motorcycles is an exciting experience. The feeling of the wind in your face, the freedom of the road and the thrill of every curve make many people quickly fall in love with two wheels. However, for many beginners, this journey takes a misleading turn: before they master riding, they become obsessed with modifications.
The main focus of any new motorcyclist should be improving their skills. Controlling the bike at low speed, braking correctly and gaining confidence on the road are essential elements. However, in their eagerness to customize their machine, many end up prioritizing aesthetics over riding skills.
The world of modifications is appealing and full of affordable options that promise improvements in performance and style. From sports exhausts to minimalist mirrors and distinctive turn signals, each piece seems like an opportunity to make the bike more exclusive. However, this obsession can be a trap.
On the one hand, there is the desire to create something unique, but, ironically, many of these changes follow repetitive trends, resulting in bikes that look like something out of an accessories catalog rather than genuine expressions of individuality. On the other hand, the influence of social media and advertising encourages uncontrolled consumerism, leading many to spend small fortunes on modifications that, in practice, add little or nothing to the riding experience.
In the end, many motorcyclists come to realize that the bike hasn’t become the perfect machine and that true satisfaction doesn’t lie in the number of parts replaced. What really matters is the riding experience, the confidence when facing different scenarios and the security that comes from truly mastering the bike.
For those taking their first steps into the world of motorcycles, the advice is simple: before you get carried away with modification fever, invest in what really makes the difference – your riding skills. The real customization of a motorcycle is not in the accessories you put on it, but in the way you ride it.
