Francesco Bagnaia finished the first day of the Le Mans GP in second position. The Italian rider was very consistent throughout the day and was only 0.145 thousandths behind his rival, Jorge Martín.
In a debrief, the Ducati Lenovo Team rider spoke about the feelings he had during the first day of practice at the French circuit.
– I can say it was a good day. Thanks to my team who have been doing a good job on Fridays. It’s better to start with a good pace, you don’t have to try new things to improve. The pace was good straight away which is an advantage and I was just concentrating on my performance and not on the bike. I’ve worked a lot on the bike for Sunday’s race, so I’m more focused on that race. For the Sprint we can finish on the podium.
Asked about Quartararo’s situation and racing at home, Pecco replied: ‘I think when you race at home, there’s a people power that helps a lot. He’s a very fast rider and as soon as he finds a good feeling on the bike he’ll be fast, his pace isn’t bad and he’s doing a great job, I’m sure it was a big relief.
Bagnaia spoke about the tire choices for the Sprint and Sunday: ‘I tried the medium and for me tomorrow morning it could be a good tire. The soft ones are too soft, it depends from driver to driver, but I think the medium will be better tomorrow.
