Pedro Acosta makes his MotoGP debut this year in only his fourth year in the world championship paddock. The Moto3 and Moto2 champion is not entertaining discussions about objectives at this point, admitting that the Qatar Grand Prix cannot be considered an indicator due to testing there beforehand.
The Spanish rider was questioned about whether having only three years of prior experience will be sufficient upon entering MotoGP. He replied: ‘I don’t know at the moment. It’s true that is a short career, it isn’t so long, because my moment in Moto3 was only one year and everything came so fast. But we will try. It’s true that also having that difficult first season in Moto2 helped me a lot to understand how the championship is working, how everything in the paddock is working and also how is the media – because this is a thing that maybe hit me quite hard at this moment. Let’s see how we can all my short, but I think good experience in the championship in this first season in MotoGP’.
As for his goals, Acosta assured that he doesn’t have any at the moment, mainly because he has almost no experience with the bike, the category, and the team: ‘I’ve no goals, to be honest. The only season I put goals was 2022 and you can see it was a disaster. At the end you cannot speak about targets when I only spent one day on the bike. It’s quite crazy talk about targets or goals for this reason. Let’s see how is the shakedown, let’s see how is the IRTA test in Malaysia because after that we will have a clear idea to go to IRTA tests in Qatar. We are talking that I will spend six days in Malaysia, then two days in Qatar and then we’ll have a race there. Also the result we can achieve in Qatar it will not be real to go to other tracks or during the season for that reason. I think we have to understand, first of all, how to work with the electronics, how to work with the tyres, how to work with the team, because not too many people talk about that but it’s a big change compared to Moto2. Is that team that will help us to be competitive during the year, when we start to make bigger steps and be faster’.
