Francesco Bagnaia finished the first day of practice in 2nd position. The Italian rider wants to respond to the crash he suffered in the Indian GP and recover the points lost to Jorge Martín.
Asked how the first day went, Bagnaia replied: ‘I’m happy, I haven’t been in the top 5 in FP1 for a long time and then to do these lap times in FP2 was good, my feeling on the bike has improved, I finally feel good in the braking and I can be more relieved after two weekends with a lot of braking difficulties and today we managed to take a step forward.
Francesco Bagnaia spoke about the cause of the braking problems that have followed the Italian rider since the Misano GP.
– ‘ It wasn’t a problem, but it was something different because the bike reacted differently. I had no control when I was sliding and it slid completely differently when I braked. With the new setup I felt better, I was very strong under braking, sliding the way I wanted to and I felt myself improving lap by lap. The setup was identical to the one in Austria, but it’s not the same because we had different tires and the grip is different here. The feeling under braking is very different, but we wanted to get back to the best feeling under braking and that’s what we’ve been working on all morning. I felt much better and I’m very happy.
