Fermín Aldeguer set the fastest time in the free practice session for the Moto2 Indonesian GP. It was right at the end of the session in Mandalika that the rider secured the top spot on the timesheets.
On a track that is not frequently used throughout the year, conditions improved during the practice, leading to constant changes in the lead. Only Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex) managed to hold the lead for more than four minutes, with a lap that kept him on top from 18m34s until 32m03s.
The fastest laps came in the last five minutes, with all riders following the same trend. In the end, Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) was the only rider to break into the 1m33s mark, beating Arón Canet (Fantic Racing/Kalex) by just 0.050s.
Arbolino finished third, 0.274s behind, followed by Somkiat Chantra (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia/Kalex) and Manuel González (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex) completing the top five. Ai Ogura (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro), the championship leader, ended up sixth, 0.780s off the top.
