Fabio Quartararo heads into the new MotoGP season without expectations, especially after the struggles he faced in 2023 and, in particular, in 2024, where he failed to secure any podium finishes in the main races.
The Monster Energy Yamaha rider made his view on setting expectations clear: ‘I think over the recent years I’ve learned that the best is to not have expectations before starting the season. Because the last two years were really difficult, and expectations make an extra pressure, and I think it’s not the correct thing’.
Therefore, Quartararo prefers to focus on the present and on doing a good job, before assessing his possibilities once the season is underway: ‘I think the biggest expectation right now is to do a good job before starting the season, and not look too much into the future – but much more at the present, trying first of all to do a good job during the tests in Malaysia and Thailand. And after a few races we can really see our goals and which position we can fight for’.
As for his first impressions of the new YZR-M1, «El Diablo» commented: ‘Of course, I’m very proud. The bike looks really good. Adding the blue things on the back seat, on the wings, it looks really good. But hopefully it’s faster!’.
