KTM is determined to replicate the success it has had in other categories in MotoGP, and this is reflected in the development of the bike – despite not being the manufacturer with the most concessions.
One of the standout features of this year’s RC16 is the elaborate rear wing – resembling a miniature version of those found on Formula 1 cars. At the rear section, there are also six small fins – three on each side.
But there are also elaborate aerodynamic innovations at the front, with the wheel equipped with potential deflectors to channel airflow. There are also two Downwash ducts in the fairing, interconnected by a kind of spoiler.
And in front of the radiator, there are some inclined fins, which may serve various functions such as directing as much air as possible under the bike or even reducing cooling when the weather is colder.
Aerodynamics are crucial in today’s MotoGP, with manufacturers introducing a myriad of solutions in a «arms race» that intensifies more and more. However, the new regulations for 2027 will put a stop to this, simplifying the aerodynamic aspect of the bikes.
