In recent years, MotoGP bikes have undergone significant changes. The most visible are the increasingly abundant aerodynamic elements on the fairings or the height adjustment devices, but there have also been major developments in terms of electronics. Randy Mamola spoke about this aspect, which sometimes generates controversy.
In an interview with Motosan.es, the former rider reflected on this technological boom: ‘It depends on how you look at it. Has it improved the races? It has made them faster, more technical, more interesting, and balanced. We’ve had some very, very close races, but it has made things very difficult for the riders themselves who are competing’.
In terms of technical innovations, Ducati has been one of the most pioneering manufacturers, and Mamola praises the Italians: ‘I don’t want to say negative things about Ducati because there is nothing negative; the negative is if you’re not on a Ducati. The incredible thing about Ducati is that all the riders fight for the podium’.
The American also said: ‘The wings and the electronics, this is the path of technology. There also has to be a set of rules, which I think already exists. Now it is part of our culture and racing’.
