Suzuki introduced the DR-Z4S and DR-Z4SM models today at EICMA 2024 in Milan, Italy. These new models will be available for the European market starting early 2025, continuing the legacy of the popular DR-Z400S, released in 2000, and DR-Z400SM, launched in 2005.
The original models became widely recognized for their precision, agility, and versatility, quickly gaining popularity in the Dual Sport segment and setting a standard for off-road driving enthusiasts. Combining performance and enjoyment, they became a favorite among riders and remain highly sought after to this day.
Now, in response to changing environmental standards and market demand, Suzuki has renewed both models, aligning them with EURO 5+ requirements and integrating electronic features that expand customization and riding comfort. These updates aim to attract those looking for modern adventure and high-performance experiences.
A comprehensive update for a new benchmark
While keeping the essence of the DR-Z400 S/SM, Suzuki has introduced major upgrades, transforming the models into a new benchmark in the Dual Sport segment, far beyond a simple update. The enhancements include a fully tuned engine, redesigned frame and swingarm, and optimized components to maximize performance and efficiency. The look has also been refreshed, and new electronic options provide flexibility and control in any situation.
Technology and connectivity to enhance riding
The DR-Z4S/SM incorporates several innovative systems, such as SDMS (Suzuki Drive Mode Selector), STCS (Suzuki Traction Control System), adjustable ABS brakes, SCAS (Suzuki Clutch Assist System), and Suzuki Easy Start System, focusing on safety and control without compromising performance.
The SDMS system offers three engine maps: A (Active), B (Basic), and C (Comfort), allowing power delivery to adapt to terrain and weather conditions. Each map adjusts the power output profile for optimal performance in any environment.
The STCS traction control allows adjustment in two levels and includes a specific “Gravel” mode for off-road use, with the option to disable traction control completely. This system is configured differently for the two versions, S and SM.
The ABS braking system is also adjustable, adapting to the terrain and driver preferences. It can be deactivated on the rear wheel or on both wheels in the S version, providing better control for off-road use.
Structure and Suspension
The rugged specifications of the DR-Z4S/SM confirm their adventurous focus, designed to deliver performance, flexibility, and reliability, whether on trails or on the road.
The new frame has been developed to complement the engine’s performance, providing superior stability and the agility required for dynamic riding. Fully adjustable KYB suspensions, with high travel, are configured for each version (S and SM), ensuring an ideal combination between frame and engine.
These improvements reaffirm the Suzuki DR-Z4S and DR-Z4SM as the perfect choices for those who wish to explore new horizons, with safety, comfort, and power.
