Pegões received on a fantastic track and with a flood of spectators the first round of the 19th Yamaha Trophy, the oldest Off-Road Trophy held in Portugal.
On Sunday, April 21, many enthusiasts responded positively to Yamaha Motor Portugal’s challenge and attended this first stage, which was held in a privileged location with unique conditions for the practice of the sport.
The Pegões round of the 19th Yamaha Trophy had the participation of 290 riders on the track, with 300 registrations recorded, of various ages and divided into 21 classes. The races took place on three tracks prepared for the different classes and once again it was a very lively, competitive day full of strong emotions.
The technical and administrative checks of the competition started early and were followed by training sessions that lasted until the end of the morning. The Paddock, as always, had a family-friendly atmosphere – a trademark of the Yamaha Trophy – where one could witness excellent interaction between parents and children and among the younger and older participants.
After lunch, and with the engines already warmed up, the competition began where the winners of this first stage of the 19th Yamaha Trophy emerged. During this first stage of the Trophy, a tribute was also paid to Filipe Azevedo de Almeida, Country Manager in Portugal for YAMAHA Motor Europe, who passed away in 2023, and to whom much of the enormous success of the Yamaha Trophy is owed.
For Yamaha Portugal, the first round of the Trophy was very well contested: “Pegões hosted the start of another edition of the Yamaha Trophy, but it is a bittersweet beginning. It is the first time we organize this event without the presence of the late Filipe Azevedo de Almeida, a person who strongly supported this Trophy and if this event is what it is today, we owe it in large part to our former Country Manager. Today we had 300 registered riders and it is a fantastic start to another year. We are very happy to see the younger classes continue to attract more and more fans. This is a very important part of the Yamaha Trophy, which is to encourage the younger generations to practice off-road motor sports on two and four wheels. This way, everything is set for a great year in 2024,” revealed Luís Figueiredo from Yamaha Portugal.
The next round of the 19th Yamaha Trophy will take place on June 9th in Rio Maior.
