Simon Jespersen claimed victory in the first race of the Spanish Superbike Championship (ESBK) at Estoril this Saturday, finishing ahead of veteran Tito Rabat.
Rabat (Kawasaki) secured pole position and led the first seven laps, with Jespersen (Yamaha Team Scandinavia) closely pursuing and even overtaking him during this period.
The Danish rider took the lead for good on the eighth lap and dominated the final ten laps, crossing the finish line 2.466 seconds ahead of Rabat. The Spaniard had to fight hard until the end for second place, narrowly beating Unai Orradre (Team Honda Laglisse) by just over a tenth of a second.
Steven Odendaal (New 2 Project/Yamaha) was also in the mix but finished off the podium in fourth, just over two-tenths behind the second-place finisher. Borja Gómez (Team Honda Laglisse) rounded out the top five.
