The second practice session of the Moto2 Catalan GP took place this morning and was highly competitive: Sergio García led with a new lap record, but the top three were separated by less than a tenth of a second.
After the first flying laps, Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team/Kalex) initially led but was soon overtaken by Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex).
Manuel González (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex), Ai Ogura (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro), and Daniel Muñoz also held the lead within the first ten minutes. The Spaniard from Pertamina Mandalika GAS UP stayed at the top for over ten minutes.
He was eventually overtaken by García (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro), who set a new record at 1m41.917s with 20 minutes elapsed. This time remained unbeaten until the end. Roberts was just 0.040s behind, while Jake Dixon (CFMoto Inde Aspar/Kalex) was third, 0.076s off the pace.
Somkiat Chantra (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia/Kalex) and González rounded out the top five, already more than three-tenths from the front. In the combined standings, Arbolino was 14th, securing the last direct spot in the second qualifying session with a 0.161s advantage over Arón Canet (Fantic Racing/Kalex), who was 15th.
The only rider who did not improve compared to yesterday was Jorge Navarro (Klint Forward). Despite setting a new lap record during the first practice session yesterday, his combined time only placed him 16th overall.
