The Masters tournament is not just a golf championship; it’s a celebration of tradition, and a key part of that tradition is the Champions Dinner. This year, the menu is being curated by none other than last year’s victor, Scottie Scheffler. The Texan golfer, known for his love of hearty, home-styled delicacies, has chosen to serve a spread that reflects his roots and personal taste. The menu includes cheeseburger sliders, firecracker shrimp, Texas-style chili, steak or redfish, and a chocolate chip cookie skillet. However, one item on the list stands out – Scheffler’s meatball and ravioli bites.
Why the focus on ravioli, you ask? In a twist of irony, Scheffler had a mishap with making this very dish during the 2024 Christmas season. A culinary adventure gone wrong, Scheffler sustained a puncture wound to his right hand while crafting homemade ravioli using a wine glass as a makeshift dough cutter. The injury was severe enough to require surgery and delayed the start of his season.
In spite of the incident, Scheffler decided to include the dish in his Champions Dinner menu, a move that tickled fans and critics alike. Humorously, some of the comments included, “Don’t let Scottie assist with the ravioli” and “The ravioli nod post-injury is priceless”.
Interestingly, the #1 golfer found an unexpected supporter in golf diva Paige Spiranac, who is often vocal about her views on golfers on her social media platforms. She rated Scheffler’s menu a perfect “10/10” and showed her support for him, a rare gesture given that she has not been a frequent backer of Scheffler. Her last public show of support for him was back in March 2023, when she defended him against former NHL star Ryan Whitney’s comment that Scheffler was “boring”.
Spiranac’s predictions for major golf winners are always eagerly awaited by fans. When asked at the Super Bowl in February about her pick for the Masters, she was quick to name Rory McIlroy, who has not won a major since 2014 and is yet to claim a Green Jacket. However, when asked about her picks for the other majors, she was all in for Scheffler, stating, “Rory, Scottie, Scottie, Scottie!”. Only time will tell if her predictions hold up.
