Romano Albesiano will be the new technical director at Honda in MotoGP starting in 2025, coming from Aprilia where he held the same position. Alberto Puig, the team manager, spoke about this unexpected new hire.
In an interview with the official broadcast, the Spaniard revealed: ‘It’s something that we were looking forward to, we’ve been trying this possibility, and we believe Romano matches very well to Honda’s phylosohpy. He has a great experience in motorsport, and we are very pleased and happy that he acceptet’.
With the hiring of Albesiano, Honda is opening itself up as never before to top-tier technicians who are not Japanese. Puig spoke of a new era in which he believes in the collective potential of the engineer and the team:
– It will be a new era, a new program, but all of us within the company are really happy. He will be a great support for our technicians, and I think together he can make a really good plan. We are really excited for it.
Regarding the process that led Honda to hire Albesiano, Puig did not go into much detail: ‘It’s not so easy to explain, but the important thing is that we managed to do it, and it was agreed. There was a good understanding also with Aprilia, which is important. It is something we were looking for, and fortunately it was possible to do it. So, from now on we will be awaiting him, that he is able to join us, and I’m very happy for it’.
