Although he admitted to making a rookie mistake in Portugal, which led to his downfall, Raúl Fernández was pleased with how the team worked and “transformed” his bike so that it could make better use of the rear potential.
The Trackhouse Racing Spaniard, who has yet to score any points in the championship after two rounds, said he felt that the bike was ‘different’ when asked by the press about the difference between the Qatar GP and the one in Portugal:
– On Sunday, I felt that the bike was different. I think the team did a good job with the bike and they did a great job especially in that aspect [of using the rear traction]. I feel that I can use it much better and in our case, it is much better because on this type of track you have to use the rear of the bike a lot.
It should be remembered that #25 had previously said about the crash suffered: ‘It was a very stupid crash, like that of a rookie. […] Perhaps the ambition was too much at the beginning of the race. I saw at the beginning of the race that we had the pace, I was “there”, and I made a mistake […]’.
The GP weekend in Portimão had a tenth place (in the Sprint) as the best result so far in the MotoGP in 2024, as in Losail at the opening he was 14th in the Sprint and, as it happened in the Algarve, Fernández did not finish the race.
