Pedro Acosta’s debut season in MotoGP has been remarkable, with the young talent quickly proving his ability to compete at the top levels, securing his first podium in just his second Grand Prix.
In an interview with GPOne.com, Marco Melandri was approached with a comparison between Acosta and past riders like himself and Loris Capirossi, who significantly impacted the premier class upon their arrival.
Although Melandri is hesitant to draw direct comparisons, he acknowledges that today’s rookies might have an easier path to competitiveness in MotoGP compared to his time:
– Those were different times. I don’t like to make comparisons, but perhaps today it’s easier for a rookie to enter immediatly in MotoGP and be competitive. Moto2 is much closer to MotoGP now, and the organization of the teams is more focused, allowing the rider to concentrate solely on riding.
