The Red Bull GasGas Tech3 had a challenging season in MotoGP in 2023, with their main rider, Pol Espargaró, suffering a severe injury in the first round. This significantly impacted the course of the year, as rookie Augusto Fernández unexpectedly found himself in a leading position within the team.
This year, almost everything remained the same, including the structure. However, one small change had a revolutionary impact: the arrival of the promising rookie Pedro Acosta, who, in six rounds, already has two podiums and is making headlines for his talent.
Tech3 owner Hervé Poncharal spoke to SPEEDWEEK.com about Acosta’s arrival: ‘The team, the way of working, communication, strategy, everything is identical, but we received a young rider who changed everything. No matter how unsatisfactory things were recently, now it’s positive. His speed is just one thing. His attitude and the way he handles having to master a completely different bike is something very special. And suddenly everyone is looking at us. The other KTM guys too, and in the best sense of the word. The atmosphere throughout the project is a decisive factor’.
Regarding Acosta’s characterization, Poncharal commented: ‘Pedro is open, self-confident, and he simply has the speed at the moment that can also help Augusto, Jack [Miller], and Brad [Binder]. Our advantage is that Mr. [Stefan] Pierer, Hubert Trunkenpolz, Pit Beirer, and also Heinz Kinigadner, have the same understanding and a common vision of MotoGP. It’s not about whether Pedro rides for Tech3. I am pleased that we are deciding this together and that Pedro has a contract with such a strong factory’.
