Another rider underwent surgery due to compartment syndrome. The affected rider this time is Nicolò Bulega, who is making his debut in the World Superbike Championship this year and has shown quality performances.
The Aruba.it Ducati rider underwent surgery on his right forearm on Thursday at the Oglio Po Hospital in Cremona, Italy. The procedure was performed by Professor Alessio Pedrazzini to correct the condition commonly known as arm pump.
Although only undergoing surgery now, Bulega has been experiencing discomfort in his right arm since the winter, which worsened during the Phillip Island round last February and now in Barcelona. The pain even affected Bulega’s performance during the second weekend of the season.
Therefore, the rider and the team agreed to undergo surgery on his right forearm to address the compartment syndrome issue. There’s about a three-week interval for recovery until the next race, which will be held in Assen from April 19th to 21st.
At the moment, Bulega leads the WSBK, finishing in the top five in all races so far. He has one victory and two second places, all achieved in the longer races in Barcelona. With 87 points accumulated, he holds a 12-point advantage over his teammate and two-time world champion Álvaro Bautista.
