The projects revealed by an American website suggest that the Indian motorcycle brand Bajaj is studying compressed natural gas (CNG) as an alternative to fossil fuels and battery power.
The report, published by Ben Purvis on the Cycle News website, highlights projects that reveal a lightweight single-cylinder motorcycle. At first glance, there is not much unusual to understand, although it is not a conventional gasoline-powered motorcycle.
CNG is a widely available gas in India and consists predominantly of methane. It can be used as a single source of energy for a traditional internal combustion engine or, as is already happening, as a range extender for so-called “Dual Fuel” engines.
The major advantages of CNG are the fact that there is little technical difference between its combustion and the combustion of traditional fossil fuels like gasoline, making CNG a viable but often overlooked substitute for fuels such as gasoline or diesel. It is also a much cleaner alternative, with studies suggesting that it produces fewer unburned hydrocarbons (UHC), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOX), sulfur oxides (SOx), and particulates (PM) than gasoline or oil.
