Next year, MotoGP will have an American team on the grid – Trackhouse Racing – and in the future, there will also be two Grand Prix races in the United States of America. Currently, only Austin hosts a MotoGP round, but until 2015, there were two rounds in the country, and even three, as was the case in 2012 and 2013. Now, Dorna seeks to expand its presence in US, a crucial market with a lot of potential as Formula 1 is showing.
Massimo Rivola, CEO of Aprilia Racing, revealed to Sky MotoGP: ‘It will have to be this way; the first conversation I had with Dorna is that now there will be a second Grand Prix in the northern United States’.
The Italian further commented: ‘I know that there’s work being done to expand our presence in the USA. Formula 1 has a great advantage because it can race in cities, but we cannot, so we have to take alternative ways. I think we offer a unique spectacle; in the past, we had many American champions, and who knows if in the future there won’t be another one with Trackhouse and Aprilia’.
