The only free practice session of the Portuguese Moto3 Grand Prix was not ideal for the riders to practice before the timed sessions. A red flag shortened the session.
The rain that fell overnight left the asphalt very wet, and the track conditions ended up dictating the early end of the practice: the red flag was shown about 12 minutes before the checkered flag, and the session was not resumed. Television images later showed marshals cleaning some areas of the track.
As no wet track is expected for the remainder of the weekend, few riders rode, and no one set timed laps, making it a practice session without any usefulness or consequence.
